Sunday Concerts Bless Worshipers

Sunday morning , February 13, 2011, His Voice Men's Chorus shared Christ during the Sun City First Baptist Church's eleven o'clock worship service. The men were lead by Director Mike Naluai with Jerry Albritton on the piano.

Later, that same afternoon, the men of His Voice journeyed over to the Vineyard Family Worship Center on Innovation Court in Murrieta for a worship concert for the congregation. His Voice Bass Michael Hunt has been a speaker for the Vineyard Family congregation many times in the past.

Coming up Saturday, March 12, His Voice concerts are scheduled in San Marcos, Escondido, and Valley Center.

Hawaiian Tunes Fill Sanctuary

Last night at His Voice practice, the sound of tropical melodies was heard in the sanctuary of Valley Adventist Church in Sun City. Director Mike Naluai taught the men some of his favorite Hawaiian songs in preparation for their concert at the Nazarene Retreat in Murrieta Hot Springs next month.

After a night of singing sacred hymns with Karen Knight on the piano and later Hawaiian tunes with Director Mike on the ukulele and His Voice Tenor Mario Rocha on the guitar, the men gathered in a tight circle lifting up prayer requests received on the website and at the weekend concerts. It was good to be together and to be sharing with the Saviour!

A Letter of Thanksgiving from
Mike Naluai, Director of His Voice Men’s Chorus

I am sitting here this morning reflecting on the events of this past weekend and am grateful to a God who has given us all a glimpse of what He has in store for us in Heaven and the open opportunities He has for us in His Voice's ministry.

Everything, from singing on the plane, mini concerts at the Alamo Car rental office and Staybridge Suites concessions, our time of worship Sabbath morning, our time of praise and adoration with the Oregon Adventist Men's Chorus, culminating in our Worship with the Ukrainian Baptist Church in Vancouver, was a testimony of God working in and through you by His Spirit.

In all of our time of ministry this weekend, I could see the Spirit working in you and could hear the angels augmenting your voices with their own, to bring tribute to an awesome God. Yes, your sound was wonderful, but less any of us boast, you and I know and fully understand that credit belongs to a loving God who is using you to reach His sheep who are called by His voice.

I am also grateful to Lou Wildman and his staff who worked tirelessly to make this weekend of the Oregon Adventist Men's Chorus Festival a Spirit-filled weekend. They made us feel at home and as ONE we lifted our voices together in praise to God.

Many times I was brought to tears and unable to sing because the sound was so magnificent. It gave me a glimpse of what Isaiah experienced when in vision when he saw the Lord seated on His throne, high and exalted. Above God were seraphs, each with six wings, with two they covered their faces and with two they covered their feet and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another,

"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty the whole earth is full of His glory. At the sound of their voices the doorpost and threshold shook and the temple was filled with smoke.”

I, too, felt that shaking this past weekend!

This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for you, the family of His Voice, as you minister to me. Yes, you minister to me through your prayers, your kind words, and through the Spirit who sings through you. I can't help but worship as I see you worship in your songs. I am a grateful director to a God who has called me to this experience and to you who have answered His call to serve Him with the talent He has given you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIKE!

As you can see by the pictures above, practice for His Voice at the Valley Church this past Thursday night ended with a birthday song for our esteemed Director Mike. Afterwards we graciously partook of some delightful cake and ice cream in honor of Mike's sixty-second birthday. We are grateful to have Mike as our leader and pray God's blessings on the Naluai family in the coming year.

NOTE: The event above happened at the last His Voice practice for this summer. August is vacation month for the men's chorus. His Voice will continue their concerts beginning in September at Crestline and ending at Old Town Temeculah's Gospel Music Festival. His Voice practice sessions will resume the last Thursday of next month, August 29. (Double click on any of the pictures to enlarge them.)

UNWRAPPED SERENITY

It’s Thursday night and the men of His Voice are at the Valley Adventist Church in Sun City singing beautiful songs together. Sonja Dias is at the piano as Mike Naluai directs and encourages the men. The mellow sounds of old gospel favorites float through church sanctuary, "Does Jesus Care ... I'm Satisfied ... No More Night ... Praise the Lord, the Almighty ...." I wish you were here soaking in these sounds of praise! The sanctuary is beautiful and in a state of anticipation as the stage props build each week for the Easter cantata, just two weeks away. One thing we won't forget is how blessed the men's chorus is to be able to practice weekly in this remarkable house of worship.

The sound of rustling plastic filled the room earlier in the evening as the men unwrapped their new concert shirts. We’re all used to seeing His Voice in their matching blue shirts that have served them well the past three years. Earlier this week, His Voice wives, Debbie and Natalija, scooped up the the new aqua or teal colored shirts in a super Kohl’s sale. The theme color easily reminds me of somewhere serene ... perhaps, Heaven! Now we await a new tie Pianist Joyce has found to complete the ensemble.

As practice ended this evening, I quickly put my new book away and joined the group as they pressed close in a circle of prayer sharing requests of all kinds, maybe even one of yours. His Voice Bass Buddy Fisher spoke for everyone when he bowed his head and began praying with a beautiful promise from God, “Fear not, for I am with you….”

The whole evening spent in praise is now behind us. The anxiety and stress disappears in this atmosphere as easily as a new shirt unwrapped.

TIME TOGETHER

The day was far from over, there were still more people to greet and encourage with song, conversation, or just a touch. As we entered the Lancaster Healthcare Center yesterday afternoon, we spied an aquarium by the lobby wall housing a large fish swimming alone.

We walked briskly down the long hall heading for the dining room for our afternoon concert. Passing rooms where there were mothers and fathers still in their hollow rooms, I wondered what kept these elders of society going and what little act of kindness might brighten their day. Perhaps the mellow sounds of men singing together would warm their hearts. Perhaps, some things we'll only know in Heaven, where the old will be young again and dreams will blend with celestial melodies. In the meantime, we sing here ... together.

While we waited for the doors to open, some of the men serenaded us with their guitars and mandolins outside the Lancaster Church. Their tunes were bright and strong and reminded us of folk music of years ago. Folk melodies fold memories like company napkins. They are meant to be opened wide with our hands smoothing out the edges to cover vulnerable laps. Gospel music reminds me of Jesus covering little me, completely, with His Grace. Thank you, Jesus!

A Message from our Director, December 31, 2007
Dear Friends,

I'm sitting here at the airport waiting to board a plane for Maui to celebrate our grandson's first birthday. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were sitting at the hospital watching his birth into this world. To see him grow over the
past year reminds me of watching how our chorus has grown, maybe not so much in numbers but from a musical and spiritual way. The chorus has weathered some storms in the making of the CD and in the loss of some key members for a period. There was Don Gwinn at the beginning of the year, then Don Troyer who went through two surgeries, and Nelson Musgrave with employment opportunities. But through this, God has blessed us and honored our commitment to His ministry by bringing the two Don's back to us, then bringing Rudy Gumangan, Rodney Knight, and Nick Gutierrez to us.

Some of the blessings of 2007 has to begin with ... The release of our His Voice CD “Written in Red.” - Singing at the assisted care facilities. - Opening our ministry to prisons and other denominational churches. – The development of our web site, http://www.hisvoice.us/ - Nancy Troyer coming on board as our editor and the introduction of our blog news site, www.hisvoicenews.blogspot.com/ - and finally, experiencing the baptism of one of our own, Nick Gutierrez.

The New Year brings some other challenges. Bob Wheeler will be leaving for Colorado Springs. Russ Lorenz will be moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma. This will be a huge loss for us … we will not only miss a good second tenor but the whole lip sink section will be gone. Developing our group as a non-profit entity will also be a challenge. But through these challenges, God is opening up more doors for us in ministry.

I was approached by Miroslav Pujic who is Director of the Centre for Secular and Post Modern Studies from the General Conference. He is based in London, England and is working on a committee to reach the unchurched. The Hope Channel in Europe falls under his jurisdiction. He was so impressed with the music on our CD that he is going to return to Southern California in April with his crew to video tape us singing six songs from our CD that will be televised as a video strip not only on the Hope channel in Europe but also to the potential two billion people who are on the Internet. If this isn't exciting, I don't know what is! I believe that we will continue to minister in a mighty way because you have listened to His voice and accepted the call to His ministry. God bless you as we continue to experience how big our God is in 2008!

At the I-215 and I-10 junction, head north on I-215 to Barstow/San Bernardino for 14 miles Exit onto I-15 N and drive 7.6 miles and then take CA-138 exit to Silverwood Lake/Palmdale for 0.3 miles Turn left at CA-138 for 21 mi. Turn slightly left at Pearblossom Hwy & go 17 miles. Continue on Fort Tejon Road for a mile. (Be aware that it is hard to see where Fort Tejon Road begins … There is a 4 points intersection and Pearblossom Hwy turns to the left so you just go straight on to Fort Tejon Road). Turn slightly right at 47th Street East and go a little over a mile. Turn left at E Ave R and go 3 miles to SDA Church at #1758.

SPECIAL DAY for NEW TENOR

December 29, 2007, is the last Sabbath of the year and a very special day, indeed, for our newest member, second tenor Dominique "Nick" Gutierrez. That morning at the Seventh-day Adventist Church at 13940 Pomerado Road in Poway, Nick will be baptized by Pastor Richard Moore during the eleven o'clock worship and communion service. Nick has asked Director Mike Naluai and the men of His Voice to sing his favorite song "Champion of Love" thus we're expecting most of the men of His Voice and their families to be present.
