May Snapshots

The month of May is almost over and sweet memories still linger in the hearts of the men of His Voice as they recall special moments on their concert day, May 9, 2009.

In the morning, the Christian men's chorus journeyed to Moreno Valley Adventist Church for their 11 o'clock worship concert. Later in the afternoon, His Voice shared an hour-long concert with the grand men and women of The Emeritus at Loma Linda, a senior care center off Mountain View.

The photos featured here are the creative work of Ethel Ferguson, wife of His Voice Tenor Bob Ferguson. Ethel snapped over sixty pictures and these are just a few of the best. Tim is Mike & Debbie's son-in-law and is having emergency brain surgery tomorrow on a returning and aggressive tumor.

Due to this emergency, the His Voice's Mexican trip has been postponed.

UPDATE ON TIM'S SURGERY:

Wednesday evening, May 20, 2009, 9:47 P.M.

Dear Friends of His Voice,

Most of you are aware that two months ago, a suspicious growth was noted on my son-in-law Tim's MRI. Yesterday, his MRI revealed that the tumor was very aggressively growing 20 times it's previous growth. Surgery was scheduled immediately. Tim went in for surgery at 4:00 and as I speak they are closing him up. Tim's doctor called and said that the surgery was successful and that they had gotten everything they wanted to get. It sounds great but the fact of the matter is, the tumor is still there and it will take a miracle that only the Master Healer can give to completely heal Tim. The cancer board will meet next Wednesday to determine a plan of action for continued treatment.

Having said that, we are grateful to God and give Him all the glory, honor and praise for the life He has given us these past three years. One thing we are confident of is that this life is but a millisecond compared to eternity. We look forward to a time where there will be no more dying and no more pain, no more hospitals and no more mortuaries. Thank you for all your prayers that have been lifted up in Tim's behalf. We love you all!

The aloha spirit of love, laughter and lyrics blended together Monday evening, April 20, as His Voice sang at the Nazarene Primetime Retreat in the legendary resort at Murrieta Hot Springs. The beauty of lakes and fountains, shade trees and winding paths, was a perfect backdrop for the senior retreat's Hawaiian theme on opening night. His Voice Director Mike Naluai, a Hawaiian, lead the concert with home-town favorites like “Little Grass Shack” and continued with many of their “Written in Red” CD favorites. The concert began with tropical strings and happy voices and ended with laughter and prayer. 4. WWBD: What would bees do?

When I was growing up, my little brother Steve and I used to imagine ourselves as missionaries helping folks in some foreign land far away from our intercity neighborhood. Loud and clear I’d encourage unsuspecting Steve to sing our made-up song, "You be the missionary, I'll be the nurse, we'll work together to make God first." Steve graduated from college but didn't make it to his first missionary assignment of teaching elementary students as he and his bride Sharilyn died in a tragic car accident. I didn't understand how these two young adult lives could be snuffed out when they had so much to offer. Besides that, only the nurse in our childhood dreams was left and I already knew I'd never make it as a professional nurse and what good could one person do anyway? Someone else could be a missionary and bless folks in far away places.
.
That's what I thought until the other day when I read about bees. Since my first taste of honeycomb I've been a fan of honey bees and just knew these little guys with wings were cool. I was surprised to learn that when it gets too hot in a hive, a group of worker bees all face in one direction, anchor themselves to the floor, and fan their wings rapidly. One bee alone couldn't make much of a difference, but a lot of bees can produce an air current strong enough to draw fresh, cool air into the hive and blow the stale air out. Wow, I thought, if a group of bees working together could activate a healing current that changes everything for the better, maybe a group of men like His Voice could, too. Perhaps to the bees and thee, this is a mission breeze!
